From the Octagon House Archives we are delighted to share one of its treasures: a 150-year-old scrapbook that belonged to Emma Eliza McElroy, daughter of the original owners of the Octagon House.
This is a typical Victorian woman’s scrapbook containing dried flowers and leaves, sentimental illustrations and newspaper clippings of all kinds that date from 1869 to at least 1888. The scrapbook provides a fascinating glimpse into its owner and Victorian culture.
