Our Star Spangled Banner’s 200th Year Anniversary

Two hundred years ago Francis Scott Key penned the lyrics that became our Star Spangled Banner. To commemorate this anniversary, on June 14, 2014 Americans  hosted singing parties all across the country and sang the national anthem together.

The Smithsonian hosted Washington DC’s premier celebration live on the National Mall. This event was shared via a 90-minute webcast from 2:30 – 4:00 pm EDT. There were performances of patriotic songs by America’s top artists until 4:00 pm when we all joined together and sing the Star Spangled Banner together.
